Winter Farmers’ Market Tuesday evening in Ypsi

Tomorrow, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, there’s going to be a special, indoor farmers’ market at the Corner Brewery. I’m told that 20 vendors will be on hand, more than half of whom will be local produce growers. Among the others planning to attend are Zingerman’s Creamery, Grassfield’s Cheese, Ugly Mug coffee, the Ypsi Food Co-op, Maggie’s Baked Goods, Stone Hearth Bakery and Pilar’s Tamales (to go only). And, from what I understand, there will also be folks there selling beef, pork, buffalo, and chicken. (None of which, I’m assured, carries the “Slaughtered on Water Street” seal.)

And, you’ll be happy to know, this is just first of four such events. The Winter Market will also be held on November 24th, December 8th and December 22nd.

Oh, I’m also told by folks at the Brewery (on the corner of Forest and Norris in Ypsilanti) that they’ll be honoring Happy Hour whenever the Winter Market is in session.

If you can find out who exactly is selling the meat stuff and post it, this would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t remember the meat vendor’s name– will get it from Sarah later– but he’s super super nice. Was in our office last week. He’s not the farmer, but resells Michigan grass-fed meat (including bison, cow, pig, maybe other things) from small-scale Michigan farmers. I was also very excited to learn that he does home deliveries in the area twice a month. He said he’s trying to fill the need for people who want local fresh meat but not in the 1/2 cow sort of quantity. We’re very excited to have him and all the others today…

And, coming to the market today is a good chance to place your order with the Ypsi Food Co-op for a Tday turkey.

    MARKET IS OPEN RIGHT NOW!

Oh my, amazing stuff today– and so lovely to be inside… I’m actually surprised by how many great vegetables to choose from– carrots, greens of all sorts, potatoes, onions, squash, brussels, cabbage, peppers, herbs, and more… There’s cider and apples (maybe not for long!) We’ve also got bread, baked goods, fresh cheese, meat, coffee from Ugly Mug, tamales from Pilar’s (take out, not hot ’cause of food licensing restrictions), and crafts! It looks beautiful…. So come on out and shop! 3-7 pm today @ Corner Brewery.
