reminder: The Shadow Art Fair is this Saturday

shadow09winterpostercI suspect that you probably already know this, as you’re super cool and not much gets by you, but I thought that I’d mention it anyway… The Shadow Art Fair (SAF) is taking place this Saturday, December 5, at Ypsi’s Corner Brewery. It will run from noon to midnight. And, as usual, it’s just two-cents to get in.

Just like always, the place will be jam packed with people doing incredibly cool stuff across a multitude of overlapping genres. And, just like always, we’ll be unveiling a special, limited-edition Shadow Brew at some point during the afternoon, for you beer lovers. Some things this Saturday, however, will be a little different. For one, we’re planning to have a bus running between the Corner and the Dreamland Theater in downtown Ypsilanti for a good portion of the day. (So, you can park downtown, and ride the bus in, if you want.)

The Dreamland Theater, as you might recall, was the recipient of our summer ’09 SAF grant. They were awarded $750 to produce a puppet show on the history of Ypsilanti, that they could take to area schools, senior centers, etc. And the play will be debuting on the 5th, with shows at 2:00 PM and 10:00 PM. And, as if that weren’t enough, between the two performances, they’ve got about a dozen bands lined up. If you follow that Dreamland link above, you’ll find the list. (The bus ride will be free, but they’ll be asking for a $5 donation at the Dreamland.) All we ask is that, if you’re going to be spending quite a while downtown, that you not park in the Brewery parking lot, and tie up a space that one of our other visitors could be using.

And, there’s also going to be a walking tour of the proposed section of the Washtenaw County Border to Border Trail that runs through Water Street. The tour should take about an hour, and will be leaving from the Brewery at 12:30 PM. For more information on the walk, or the Friends of the Border to Border Trail, visit www.bordertoborder.org, email wolverbob@gmail.com or call 734-487-9058.

Oh, and if you want to help spread the word about the Shadow, just click here for posters, pictures and web graphics.

That’s it for now… See you all Saturday.

update: This mention of tying up the parking spaces at the Brewery got me thinking about options. And I’m not sure why we haven’t mentioned it in the past, but there’s a really big lot in Depot Town, across the railroad tracks from the Freighthouse, that’s only about a block away from the Corner Brewery. It’s open to the public, and I imagine that people could park there on Saturday. I’ve put together a map for those who are interested, and you can find it here.

Most people, once the Brewery parking lots fill up, tend to park in the surrounding neighborhoods. You’re right though- that parking lot by the railroad tracks is only a block away. It’s hidden by trees though. Maybe a sign would help.

I am going to have an updated draft of the Water Street Trail plan with me on Saturday, for those who are curious. I will be hanging around for a while before and after the walk for those who would like to have a look and/or offer their opinion. I will also be leading the walk, so I will be there early enough to, um, warm up before we leave.

I hope you were kidding, Mark, when you told the Wall Street Journal that you’d have a merchant there selling albino body parts.

Awww, Andy. You plowed through three red lights. At least you looked both ways, at least at two of them. Still, not cool.
