What does it say about us when a piece of shit movie like this makes $65 million its first weekend?
Or, better yet, what does it mean about our society when the astrophysicists at NASA, instead of exploring space and finding new planets for us to infect with humanity, are busy assuring stupid tea-partiers that the world isn’t going to end just because the Mayan calendar needs to be flipped?

Another question. Movies like GI Joe also pack them in at the theaters. But movies like The Good Soldier hardly bring in anyone to places like the Michigan Theater, even though GI Joe is pure fantasy, and The Good Soldier is absolute reality. Why isn’t the story of real war more “exciting” than fake war?
I mostly just watch Patrick Swayze movies, because I can always count on them to be real life true stories.
You know, like Ghost, Point Break, Next of Kin….
Anyway, they say truth is stranger than fiction, which scares the hell out of me.
I kind of miss The A-Team on TV.
Have you ever pissed in your radiator like they did in Red Dawn? I am thinking of trying it, but I can’t get my car to overheat.
I get that people want escapism and good scare. What rubbed me wrong about this was the scale – the tens of millions of people dying, the cars driving off of overpasses with families inside, the twin towers crashing down, as the little plane flies between them. The shout-out to 9/11 was unmistakable. And it pissed me off. It’s amazing how far we’ve come as a country over the past 10 years. Now we can see people leaping from burning towers as good clean fun. Maybe that’s a good thing, right?
Having just watched Towering Inferno this weekend (on my deathbed), it’s weird seeing this trailer. Body count appears to be following Moore’s Law.
Sorry Mark, people have to die in disaster movies, the more the better. That’s why Deep Impact is so much better than Armageddon.
We can’t afford a mine shaft gap!
It’s fun to watch that and pretend Cusak is still his character from Say Anything, only like 20 years in the future.
If they called it Say Anything II, I probably would have watched it.
Let’s get together once 2012 is out on DVD and make a mash-up, Tarp.
So, I guess Edwardo is dead by the time I write this? I am sorry to hear that. I didn’t even know you were sick.
It may have one of the shittiest plots in a movie since Edward Penishands, but those explosions are pretty sexy.
Don’t talk shit about Edward Penishands. That’s some of Cusak’s best work.
I’m disappointed that they waste so much of the production budget on writing a story and paying recognizable actors. That’s millions more that could have gone into CGI.
The History Channel is advertising WWII in HD this week. The ad makes it sound like a summer action blockbuster. I’m glad I can now experience the horror of WWII from the comfort of my living room in HD.
I didn’t think it was possible, but someone’s topped 2012.
