Death to the President

Do you remember that time, during the Bush presidency, when the pastor prayed in front of his congregation that the President would die violently? Or, how about that time that the Congressman called the President ”an enemy of humanity”? And then, of course, there was the Facebook poll on whether or not he should be killed, and all the wishful thinking about military coups.

It’s hateful, no doubt, but I guess it’s kind of understandable, given the fact that our country was attacked on his watch, and that he lied our nation into a bloody and unnecessary war. Oh, and then there’s all the stuff about cutting taxes on the super-wealthy, as the disparity between rich and poor grew exponentially. And I guess he did kind of allow FEMA, under the direction of a political appointee with no relevant experience, to wither to the point where American lives were put at risk. Oh, and I almost forgot the torture. And the failure to address global warming. And the gutting of the EPA… But does that excuse the bloodlust?

But, of course, that’s not what happened. No one seriously advocated for the death of George Bush, or fantasized about a military coup. People protested. And they asked for Congressional committees to launch investigations. And they donated to MoveOn and the ACLU. No, all the macabre bullshit wouldn’t start until Barack Obama, our nation’s first black President, came into office and had the audacity to try to secure healthcare for the American people.

You people fucking amaze me.

Yes, but it really is going too far when adults are having our dear precious children blessing and praying to a cardboard cutout of the ‘chosen’ one. Isn’t it?

Well, if kids in some random school singing songs about him, death is clearly the correct response. I wasn’t aware of that. Sorry.

It’s a total shift in culture and a lack of respect for the office, and it even extends into Congress. No one would have dare yelled “You Lie” at Reagan, or even Bush. Even if it were true. I don’t want to attribute it all to race, as I’m sure there are other factors, but you cannot tell me that the fact that he’s a relatively young black man isn’t a huge factor.

I amazed that the same groups of people that are so angry about children not being required to do the flag pledge are the same that are so “worried” about kids in school learning about the president, or singing songs. How dare African-Americans be proud or excited about the first president who looks like them. I remember having pictures of the presidents around when I was in school, and listening to/talking about speeches they had made.
It’s all manufactured outrage to keep people distracted from the real issues.

Joe Wilson, now a star in the Republican party for his unprecedented outburst against the President, is coming to Michigan to help fund-raise:

Apparently disrespecting President Obama is just another way to raise a quick buck.

Just a few weeks ago, Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina became infamous for his furious outburst during the President’s nationally televised address to Congress on healthcare reform. Shouting “You lie!” at President Obama was so outrageous that Wilson was even condemned afterwards by his fellow Republicans.

But there’s at least one Michigan Republican who doesn’t seem to think that Joe Wilson’s outburst was disrespectful at all: former U.S. Representative Tim Walberg. Not content with using his outrageous conduct to raise millions of dollars for his own campaign, Joe Wilson is helping to raise money for like minded extremists – he is the guest of honor at a Walberg fundraiser this Friday.

Michigan needs fewer decibels and more dialogue, less shouting and more solutions – take action to tell Tim Walberg that we don’t need Joe Wilson’s disrespect in our state.

In 2008, people in Tim Walberg’s district judged him too extreme to represent them when they voted him out of office. Now he’s back, and hoping to use money raised from Joe Wilson’s attack on President Obama to regain his seat. Walberg needs to know that exploiting Wilson’s shameful behavior as a political fundraising tool is not going to fly here in Michigan.

Take action and send a message to Tim Walberg that shouting and extremism won’t solve our nation’s problems – or regain him a seat in Congress.

In Michigan, we respect President Obama. Tim Walberg needs to remember that.

Camera Girl, I bet even Joe Wilson realized Tim Walberg is insane once he spends a few moments with him.

Dragon, I think the cardboard cutout of Dubya might have made a better president than the actual guy himself did. I know a cardboard cutout would have been less embarrassing.

There was a myspace group about assassinating GWB for a while. So there’s one.

Yes Trish, you are correct. There were some similarly inappropriate and hostile gestures made toward every previous president. The number of incidents directed at this current president, however, has been far more numerous, as Mark has pointed out…something to the tune of a 400% or greater increase.

Hey Seven Larry Im sure you dont know this b/c you just have the mainstream media do all your thinking for you but the senator said ‘you lie’ after Obama said we are NOT going to include illegal immigrants in the new health care bill. Instead Obama said he is just going to make the immigrants legal and then give them health care. Now I dare you to say that is not grounds to call someone a liar. And by the way it is crap like that why I dont like or agree with Obama its not his skin color. I am so sick of democrats pulling the race card anytime someone disagrees with obama. It has nothing to do with race, you ignorant moron
