Daniel Johnston in Ann Arbor

One of my favorite artists, Daniel Johnston, is going to be playing at Ann Arbor’s Blind Pig on Sunday, August 16. If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing him perform, I’d highly recommend it. Here, by way of introduction, is a video of him performing the song Living Life not too long ago in Portland.

I interviewed him a few years ago for an issue of Crimewave. If I can find a copy, I’ll scan it and post it sometime between now and the show, in hopes that it might convince one or two of you to buy a ticket. I don’t think it was one of my best interviews, but, as I suspect some of you might know after having seen the documentary, Daniel’s not always an easy guy to communicate with. He’s a brilliant guy, though, and he’s written some of the most incredible songs of our generation.

That sounds worth braving a place with a urine trough.

Tickets are $15 (cash) at the 8 Ball and Vault of Midnight. The day of the show they’ll be $20.

Since this video is no longer available can you maybe post another one or send me a link to one? I don’t know this artist.

I didn’t think that Daniel Johnston was the kind of artist who would have something pulled fro YouTube. I wonder what’s behind this.
