I don’t think we’ve ever even discussed this, but it is strange that you picked this song – it’s one of my favorites, ever. Maybe there is a reason we are in a “band” (that is extremely inferior to Magazine) together.
Since I came to love this song I have thought it would be very cool to try to write ” a song from ______” some other inanimate place, basically stealing their idea, but ruining it, MPT style. Do it.
Yeah, I’m not sure when I came to know about Magazine. Maybe Matt played something for me once. I have one of their records and like it quite a bit. And, yeah, I like the idea of having a song come from “out of the ventilator,” or whatever.
Speaking of vents, do you remember the YL/MPT show where the rest of you played downstairs in the basement of some house in Ann Arbor, and I ran a super-long bass cord through an air duct and into the living room upstairs? Playing bass while sitting on a couch at a party while the rest of the band was playing downstairs is still one of my favorite band memories.
I think a guy I used to work with – Alev – was staying at the house. As I recall, it was near Treasure Mart. I was upstairs on a couch, drinking beer, and playing along with you guys in the basement. It was perfect. It was all the fun of playing in a noise band, with very little of the pain.

Was that at Tubbs’? Vague memory. Sounds authentically like one of your lazy-ass ideas, though.
