I don’t know that there’s much distinction in being named Best Local Blog by Ann Arbor’s free monthly magazine, the Current, especially when the blog to place second, Ann Arbor is Overrated, has only been updated once in the past year, but, still, I wanted to say thank you. Thanks to the two or three of you out there who took the time to take the Current poll and fill in my name. It’s nice to know that there are at least a few people out there reading. I never thought that I’d top the thrill of being named the 8th Most Influential Political Blogger in the Least Politically Influential State, but I guess it goes to show you what can happen if you never stop striving to be the best.
And, for what it’s worth, I’d like to dedicate this award to the snitches of Philly, Republicans too afraid to say that they believe in science, the Libertarian paradise of Somalia, and
Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy. I couldn’t have done it without them.

i didn’t know about the poll but i totally would’ve voted for you. and i don’t even live in michigan.
That category would have been much more hotly contested maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Between AAiO updating on a frequent basis, Dr. Mandrake’s constant bitch-fests about how Michigan suckage, and MM, and I think dirtgrain – it could have been an interesting vote.
Don’t blame me. I voted for Ypsilanti in denial because I got a soft spot for prisoner art.
what are you going to do with your plaque?
Why do you hate America.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Republicans would fight back hard if Democrats or liberal groups try to make the Supreme Court confirmation process about Sessions’ record, rather than about Obama’s nominee to replace Justice David Souter.
“If people try to go down that road, it’ll blow up in their face, because Jeff is a good guy,” Graham said. “My hope is that our Democratic colleagues — if you start listening to the bloggers — if we’re going to let the bloggers run the country, then the country’s best days are behind us.”
I think you should poll us on the best local print publication. Then the whatever publication wins can run a front page story saying “number one blog in the county thinks we’re number one.” I vote for Ann Arbor Paper. Because of the comics. Even if they haven’t updated for a decade.
The folks at the Huffington Post should read your award winning blog more. Me and OEC already did the libertarian Somalia thing to death last year at some point.
I’m proud of you, Mark.

I hope you used KY.
I consider lubricant a form of socialism.
Next time I see you, I’ll give you a congratulatory smack on the rump.
There wasn’t a Q&A component to the competition, but, if there was, I would have found a way to say that I think gay marriage is an insult before the eyes of God, as it goes against the natural order of things. Then, I would have added, that breast enhancement surgery is the highest tribute one could possibly pay to our lord and savior.
Is the state of local blogging really so dismal that shutdown AAIO site is the second best there is?
The best Ann Arbor blog is in Ypsi.
David Simon gave what I thought was knockout testimony yesterday on the state of the newspaper industry and “citizen journalism”.

“It’s nice to know that there are at least a few people out there reading. ”
Are you referring to MM.com or Current Magazine here? The former having a readership doesn’t surprise me one bit. The latter, however…
And Steph:
“The best Ann Arbor blog is in Ypsi.”
Naturally. The businesses and things happening in Ann Arbor are in Ypsi too.

Mark, I still owe you a couple of entries to the pencil paparazzi gallery. I haven’t forgotten, I promise.
^ that should read, “The best businesses…”
Mark, do you get anything for this? Like a plaque (oops! I originally typed “plague” hee hee), as Ted mentioned, or gift certificate or something? I mean, come on, you should get SOMETHING!
My Mark Maynard Oregano Plant is, I’m sure, delighted to know that its namesake won. This will give it the courage to live on after it goes into my garden in my front yard. Congrats again!! :)
Did you see the website listed above?
They said live.com was number one. Live.com is owned by Microsoft and it not local. Perhaps they meant mlive.com.
Runner up, Ann Arbor Chronicle, misspelled.
Someone forgot to spellcheck “Chronicle” too. With all the mistakes on the page, maybe the “win” for MarkMaynard.com is an error too? It could be that other Mark….
I wonder if I’ll place this year… Or has Ann Arbor finally gotten a new blog of their own?
