The grandson of Sigmund Freud tells a joke

Here’s something to watch while while you’re eating breakfast. It’s a little video put together by my friend Kez in Pittsburgh of Sigmund Freud’s grandson Clement telling a joke. The audio is from the BBC. Freud, a former member of British parliament, recently passed away. He was 84 years old.

The joke is good on its own, but I find it particularly nice that it’s being told by Freud’s grandson. One wonders what the Freuds will be up to in another generation or two.

As an aside, why is it that the British get to have witty, likable leaders? It doesn’t seem fair.

But what do those shat pants represent? Certainly there’s a deeper, perhaps mother-related, meaning.

Of his many accomplishments, one not mentioned in the obit was that of a childrens book author. Blogged recently as a favorite of both Neil Gaiman and J.K. Rowling (“one of the funniest books I have ever read”), his character ‘Grimble’, the sensible son of criminal parents. Grimble did not have his birthday on a fixed day like other children: every now and then his father and mother would buy a cake, put some candles on top of it and say, “Congratulations Grimble. Today you are about seven”, or, “Yesterday you were about eight and a half, but the cake shop was closed.”

I now remember Sir Clement Freud being on, I believe, Merv Griffin quite a bit. Really dry humor but very hilarious. He was also on the cover of the Paul McCartney Band On The Run album.

I think “20 pounds to shit in my pants” is your best bet for the next Shadow Art Fair booth.

Hmmm…. I like the idea, except for the part them being my pants. How about a, “I’ll Shit Your Pants for 20″ booth?
