Shadow Grants

As I think I must have mentioned here at some point, the next Shadow Art Fair is scheduled to take place Saturday, July 18 at the Corner Brewery. As usual, it’s scheduled to run from noon to midnight. And, as usual, you’re all encouraged to apply as vendors, or enter our poster design competition. The deadlines for both are May 1… More importantly, though, that’s also the deadline for our second round of Shadow Arts Grants. So, if you’ve got a good idea, but just lack the money to get it going, let us know… Here’s the blurb written by my friend Melissa.

Have a great idea, but need a financial kickstart? We believe in supporting art in the community, and that’s why in 2008 we started a fund earmarked for arts–related grants. The money raised at the Shadow Art Fair (from the two-cent admission fee, and the special Shadow Brews, for instance) supply the grant fund, then we make it available to local artists to help them with their awesome ideas. For 2009, we have $1000 available.

So, seriously give it some thought. If you have an ambitious idea that would make our community a better place, let us know. There’s a good chance that we’d like to help.

And as for the Shadow Art Fair itself, I don’t know if we come out and say it anywhere on the site, but we tend to favor vendors who fuck a bit with the accepted art fair model. So, feel free to think outside the box, or, for that matter, outside the culture that gave us the concept of “the box” in the first place… I’ve still to realize my dream of a “Hold a Trembling Artist” booth, but that’s the kind of thing that we’d like to see more of. We want more experiential stuff mixed in with everything else.

Has anyone signed up to wash hair and dirt from possum and coon flesh. If not, I’d like to do that at the Shadow.

You need a dominatrix at the SAF, demeaning people for money.

But then what would the bartenders do?

And I love the idea of a Clean Your Coon Meat While You Shop counter. It could be right by the gift wrap table.

I’d like to see a highly competitive coon hunt with hounds and guns taking place in the beer garden. And then you could butcher them after.

Or maybe a fox hunt through Ypsi on Segways for the more genteel.
