According to a new report issued by the Department of Homeland Security, right-wing extremist groups are taking advantage of the current economic conditions and fact that we have a black President to recruit returning, out-of-work veterans and others. Following is a clip from Reuters:
…The April 7 report, which Reuters and other news media obtained on Tuesday, said such fears were driving a resurgence in “recruitment and radicalization activity” by white supremacist groups, antigovernment extremists and militia movements. It did not identify any by name.
DHS had no specific information about pending violence and said threats had so far been “largely rhetorical.”
But it warned that home foreclosures, unemployment and other consequences of the economic recession “could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists.”
“To the extent that these factors persist, right-wing extremism is likely to grow in strength,” DHS said.
The report warned that military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat skills could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding jobs or fitting back into civilian society…
And, as you might imagine, folks on the fringe of the right wing aren’t enjoying being singled out.

Can I get my face on a playing card? For committing or conspiring to commit the crime of nothing?
If I’m not mistaken there was evidence that one of the recent mass killings was the result of a man who felt the government was “coming for his guns”. Limbaugh, Coulter and company are complicit. They breed paranoia. They convince people that our President is a Socialist Muslim Extremist who is coming for their guns and Bibles, and then act shocked when someone actually does something about it.

Maybe folks should just lay off the gun control already for shit’s sake. It’s making people defensive, and the violence-prone nuts are unfortunately the first to pop under pressure. Same with foreign occupations producing terrorists. Just fuck off and the crazy defensive balls-to-the-walls motivation goes away.
I was really proud of my fellow gun toting Americans, seeing how they stood up against that coup that took place in Florida eight years ago and the subsequent illegal occupation of the executive branch. It’s good to know they stand on guard for liberty like that.
You see, this is why I am for gun ownership. I want intelligent people to consider having them. Right now it’s mostly moronic drones with inferiority complexes who possess them. Tyranny can walk right around those idiots and through the front door.
I agree with you, Robert. I won’t be happy until everyone on the blog is capable of defending themselves from violent aggressive hypocrits with guns.
Yes, everybody put aside your opinions or folks will start shooting! How dare you air your grievances in public. Shut up or die!
I’d like to ease-off the bogartting of another thread for a while there, Curt. Suffice it to rejoin that I’m referring to illegal arms-infringement legislation, rather than people voicing their private opinions. For everyone’s blogging enjoyment, I will refrain from further rejoinders.

No! I said I want intelligent people to have guns!
