Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen is going to be at the Fox Theatre in Detroit on May 9. As I haven’t been to a show since before the Ramones started dying, I’m finding the idea kind of terrifying, but I’m thinking about going.

I think Leonard Cohen started dying before the Ramones were formed.

Leonard Cohen is one of the most admired singers of all time, and one of the best too. Go see him if you can! A living legend.

I wonder how he’ll spend his time in Detroit.

I can’t believe James Madison knows who Leonard Cohen is, but he doesn’t know who I am. Racist founding father bullshit.

Music is timeless. Cohen’s sounds have reached the afterlife locale where me and all the damned spend eternity. This King fellow went to the Other Place, from what I am told.

Nothing up here but Saturday morning cartoon theme songs from the 70’s and 80’s. It’s surprisingly nice.

Just so I’m straight on this, if you go to hell you get to hear Leonard Cohen, and if you got to heaven you get to hear the theme songs for Land of the Lost and The Bugs Bunny Road Runner Hour on an endless loop. Is that right?

Yes, plus Thundarr the Barbarian, He-Man, Spider Man and His Amazing Friends, Smurfs, Dungeons and Dragons, Q-bert, whatever that animated show was with WWF wrestlers in it, etc. etc. Before it recycles, there are even dance remix versions. It’s really fun once you get over your hang-ups. I’ve been here for quite some time and the loop has only gone around twice, but by the time it does, you can’t wait to hear them again. Plus the lasers and glow-sticks are awesome.

Well, Mr. MarkMaynard, music of all types travels thru the region where all the damned reside for eternity — but that doesn’t mean we can select what we hear. I think it’s a musical plan worked out between the Master of this realm and someone called St. Michael. As for that much higher realm where this King fellow apparently resides — it’s a realm to which no body who owned slaves is ever admitted — so I can’t say what music they may have there. But what is a cartoon theme song? What kind of songs did this man King enjoy? “Precious Lord”? That song is heard here often enough, in various voices, to give many of us pause to repeat our crimes, if only we could, at this late date.

what do you call it, a Freudian typo? By “repeat” I mean repent. While living, I was too arrogant to admit error, now I am condemned to make errors all the time, each one painful to me to behold.

Plus no glow sticks. Did I mention live-action theme song karaoke night? Also awesome. My great great grandma wails acapella on Night Rider. You have to hear it.
