Local blogger does good: Juan Cole on the Colbert Report

University of Michigan professor and popular local blogger Juan Cole appeared on the Colbert Report last night to promote his new book, “Engaging the Muslim World.” Here’s a clip:

I find it humorous that the same word – “blogger” – is used to define both of Cole and me. I know that fact must cause him a great deal of pain, but I find some degree of comfort in it… At any rate, I’d like to congratulate him for reaching the summit…. My hat is off to you, Dr. Cole.

I think I’ve made similar assertions before, but you should take comfort, Mark, in knowing that if you ever appear on television accompanied by a picture like this, those that love you will beat you with a stick.

If you can’t tell if I’m joking, that’s okay, neither can I.

That was so exciting to turn on the Daily Show and see him there! I do feel very local boy done good about that. I’m sure that’s of great comfort to Dr. Cole.

I love the professor, but he’s letting his hair get a little “Tiny Tim”.

Juan Cole looks like a whigged-out Peter Sellers.

I was encouraged by what he said. Do Republicans watch the Colbert Report?

    Republicans aren’t in power.

And we all know that only those supporting the party in power are allowed to watch television.

I just assumed the Republicans were sitting on their porches drinking whiskey, complaining about stuff.

Also the fact that Obama isn’t exactly scaling back in the middle east might seem relevant to the intellectually honest observer. Although I guess he talked to Iran or some token shit. Correct me if I’m wrong.
