I haven’t heard a final dollar amount mentioned yet, but word on the street is that the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation will be coming through with the grant for the Ypsi Freighthouse that I last mentioned here in October. It may be a bit premature, but I’d like to thank the board members of the Community Foundation, who made it a priority to invest in our City, the members of the Friends of the Freighthouse, who have been so selflessly giving of their time and energy, and local developer Bill Kinley, who got the whole thing rolling. This is an incredible piece of good news for our community, and one hopes it’s just the first of many this spring.

There is a wonderful and happy meeting of opportunity and means happening around the whole light rail project. It is clearly pointing us in the direction of having the depot in the freighthouse and although the parking is an issue regardless of which side the depot is on, the thing is going to happen and we as a community need to pull together and vision our selves with this project in place. How can it positively affect us in our near future?
Just a minor, picky pointless correction. Folks keep referring to this as “light rail.” It’s heavy rail aka commuter train. Hopefully SEMCOG’s full plan comes to fruition and light rail is added throughout the region.
All we need is a couple million regional residents to vote for a tax.
Good news about the Freighthouse. Congrats to the Friends and thanks for your perseverance.
So we’ll have to wait until the grant comes full term to hear the magic number? You’re such a tease.
What’s the tally for the freighthouse up to these days? How much is still needed to get it up and running? Is the money being managed well?
What are they going to do with it?
Mark,
This is great news!
I’ve been enjoying the RAC elevator each week when going for T’ai Chi instruction and hope that the good folks who persevered with this project will turn their efforts to the Freighthouse.
On a separate note, I am also thrilled that the A2 Community Foundation didn’t see their funds go up in smoke with Bernie Madoff. Smart (or lucky) investing!
I just got word that the amount is $100,000!
Now that’s an investment with teeth!
That does take a bite out of the goal. Hopefully it will return to us soon with some magic intact of the enchantment it once held. Thank you FOYF, A2CF and all.
