According to the MRI, the back pain is real

According to the doctor, I have a “left para-central disc protrusion which effaces the left lateral recess and exerts mass-effect upon the left S1 nerve root.”

And that, my invisible friends, is my excuse for not blogging tonight.

    What’s it mean?

I think it means that one of my disks is squishing out from between two vertebrae at the base of my spine and putting pressure on the bundle of nerves that runs down my left leg, which would explain the pain I’m feeling. Basically, it’s stuff I knew already – just now I know the scientific jargon to explain it.

I think you should try to get medical marijuana prescribed and then blog about the experience. We could see how the new law works.

In all seriousness, I hope your back feels better.

Same thing my Mom had to deal with for years. Degenerated to the point where surgery was needed due to increased pain over time. Started off with Chiropractic, then accupuncture, and finally surgery. Hopefully your condition stabilizes. The pot thing sounds like a great idea – Chronic for Chronic!

Mark, you should try physical therapy at St. Joe’s Occupational Therapy building. You need to ask for Katie, the back specialist. She is amazing. See if your doctor can refer you to St. Joe if your insurance covers it.

Hey Mark, I had my first MRI late last year. I have some similiar back issues and feel your pain – literally. Get some PT and pain meds – I hope you’re feeling better soon.

I have to confess, I was tempted to make light of your agony, but then I realized how the public would respond.

Great clip. I’m a huge Tim Carey fan. Man, that guy is brilliant…. I actually want to post something about him next week. Stay tuned.

I just got back from a doctor appointment too, and it turns out all my comfort is imagined.
