It looks as though our culture jamming friends the Yes Men have struck again. Today, in New York City, 1.2 million flawless forgeries of the New York Times were distributed, and all indications are that Andy Bichlbaum and company were involved. You can read the entire paper online here. It’s essentially a fantasy publication from the future, showing us just what could be possible if only we had the courage and the determination to make it so.
Looking exactly like a traditional copy of the New York Times, this 14-page version is reported to contain articles about the ending of the war in Iraq, Bush’s trial for treason, the setting of a maximum wage for America’s CEOs, the closing of Harvard Business School, and the return of high school civics classes throughout the United States. There’s even an article about how our nationalized oil companies are using their profits to fund global warming remediation projects. And, as if that weren’t enough, (a pretend) Thomas Friedman not only apologizes for being wrong on Iraq, but pledges never to write another column.
Video of New Yorkers contemplating the issue can be seen here.

[If you’re a reader in New York, and you have an extra issue, please send it to me. I’d really like to have it for the MM.com archives.]
