blame the boomers

If you think you hate the self-indulgent, short-sighted, consumption-driven and chronically irresponsible baby boomers now, just wait until all 78 million of them start collecting Social Security. I’m sure I’m not alone in predicting a tidal wave of anger directed at them once young folks start realizing what they’ve allowed to happen to our country on their watch.

I say we begin punitive measures at once and start dismantling al the nostalgic bullshit that they so love. Oldies radio. Coke memorabilia. Hotrods.

David Walker has been giving the same speech for the past four years. You can visit the GAO website and find about 50 versions of it. The bottom line is that we know the solution to making Social Security solvent and the much bigger issue is Medicare. Every reasonable Social Security reform proposal protects people age 55 and older — after all, it is hardly fair to change the rules on people who are on their way (by choice or not) out of the workforce. The stock market decimating 401(k)s is probably the best thing to happen to Social Security in a while, should tamper down takes to privatize it. On the bright side, if the baby boomers don’t have enough income to live on, do you have room in your house for your parents?
