I spent the evening with three old friends. We’d been talking for a while, when one of them broke out a DVD player and told us that he had a Carol Burnett disk with him. As if that in itself was weird enough, none of us objected. Quite the contrary, we were all into it. So that’s what I’ve been doing for the last two hours – just sitting on my ass, eating chips, and watching Carol Burnett. I can’t imagine what I’ll be like at 60 if I’m already doing shit like this now.

I get together ever Saturday night with male friends in my garage. We tell the wives that we’re watching boxing, but we really watch Mama’s Family. (Season 4 is now out on DVD!)
A lot of people don’t realize that the woman who plays “Mama” on Mama’s Family, Vicki Lawrence, got her break on the Carol Burnett Show when they conducted a Carol look-alike search.
Oh, and I should add also that Vicki Lawrence is the one and same who had a hit in the 70’s, titled “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia.”
Even fewer realize that Tom Conway really is the “Dorf” character he became known for later in his career. All of his work on the Burnet show was done with prosthetics and special effects.
Ain’t no shame in that game. Carol Burnett is (was?) a damn genius.
Sounds like a great evening to me! Just be embrace your age and thankful you grew up in a time period that had excellent comedians. Now…add dvds of Laugh In to the mix and maybe a Bob Newhart comedy album and be proud you can still sit on your ass for two hours straight hours without having to pee every two minutes and you can still and eat junk food without getting “all stopped up” as my old dad says all the time.
