jesus was a community organizer

An attorney that I knew back in New Jersey, who I now believe is retired, has taken to spending his days writing letters to the editor. I’m on his email distribution list, along with all of his leftist friends, and the various media outlets he directs his output toward. Today, his letter was short and sweet – just the retelling of something that he’d heard on the radio. Anyway, I thought that you might enjoy it.

An outraged devout christian woman who spoke on the Diane Rhem show last week said:

Sarah Palin needs to remember that Jesus was a community organizer, and Pontius Pilate was a governor.

Brilliant! I will pass it on.

    Must read:
Huffington Post Bruce Wilson’s article about Palin’s Third Wave church.

I dig the gist of it, and it’s funny (especially the last part), but how was Jesus a community organizer in the modern sense? He walked around and talked, personally healing people who came to him, but he didn’t organize shit except picking twelve yahoos to explain his parables to and send out to tell people about him. Feeding 5000 people w/ loaves and fishes was a spontaneous thing, not like a soup kitchen or fundraiser or get-out-the-vote for the consul or something. I don’t recall seeing any “no Gallic blood for triumphs and tribute” rallies put on by liberal Jesus either. To top it off, he lost an election to a murderer and died a humiliating, tortuous death as, in the eyes of pretty much everyone at the time, a self-deluded blasphemer. Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world and anyone trying to misuse his name for political vanity, no matter what the party, is just shortsighted and wrong.

Yeah, the metaphor didn’t quite fit, but I still found it an interesting thought worth sharing… And, religious stuff aside, one of the most disappointing things about Palin’s speech for me was her dismissal of community organizing as a worthwhile endeavor. Whether or not Jesus did it, I think she’s wrong.

I heard that on the radio, too. What a hoot! I’ve been dropping it on people randomly. It always gets quite the reception.

Okay. Taken in the spirit intended, it’s a good one.

The whole concept of community organizing is a bit difficult for an Alaskan to comprehend. I can see how they might be so tempted to trivialize it.

Limited access highways are another concept Alaskans might not take too seriously.

Saying “Jesus Was a Community Organizer” like Obama just gives credibility to the Right as they seek to uncover Obama’s Messiah complex.

So, Obama is “The Way, The Truth, & The Life” like Jesus (John 14:6)?

“Whoever believes in {Obama} will not die, but have eternal life” (John 3:16)?

Jesus is the Door, the Good Shepherd, the Bread of Life and the Son of God?

Who is Obama’s “John the Baptist”? Jeremiah “The Anti-American” Wright?

The question should have read, “Obama is the Door, the Good Shepherd, the Bread of Life and the Son of God?”

I just can’t wait for Obama to tell the storms of global warming “Peace! Be Still!”

p.s. didn’t Pilate just vote “present” … like a certain Illinois legislator?

Jesus didn’t organize the community — that was the job of the Zealots who sought to overthrown Rome.
