I only spoke with him one time that I can remember. I offered him an orange one day at the Freighthouse. He declined. He was a staple around town for quite a few years, a kind of comforting presence, at least for me. I’d see him walking down Washtenaw all the time, or making copies at Kinko’s, always in a dress. Linette loved his sense of fashion, and not in a mocking way. She genuinely liked the outfits he put together. Lots of hats, miniskirts over pants, and fur vests, as I recall. I’ve wondered many times over the past few years what had become of him. I probably would have posted something here a long time ago, but I didn’t know until recently that I had an image of him. Looking over my Freighthouse footage this weekend, I realized that I’d captured him in two scenes. Linette and I referred to him affectionately as Dress Man. Another MM.com reader knew him as The Seeker. Does anyone have any memories that they’d like to share, or, better yet, information as to who he was and what became of him?

The latest is that McCain has asked him to run as the VP to balance the ticket.
Don’t worry, Mark, I’m sure your Dad will get in touch soon…
That’s my mom. Handsome woman. Wanna fight about it?
She’s all yours, brother….
Yea :) I remember this guy – I saw him all the time around town.
For the record, I wasn’t poking fun at the fellow. I’m genuinely interested in finding out what happened to him. It’s been over 5 years since either Linette or I have seen him, and we still talk about him often. I suspect that he may have passed, but I have this glimmer of hope that if we can get the Freighthouse reopened, he’ll suddenly reappear.
I’ve seen him around town recently (within the past few weeks) so he hasn’t passed (or it was very recently if he unfortunately did). I can’t say that I’ve ever seen him in a dress in the 2 years I’ve been in town though.
I could swear I saw him in the area of Bombadill’s when I first moved here back in December 2006. He was just one of those growing signs that I had found a good place to live.
I still see him around all the time. Sometimes on the 4 or 5 bus to Ann Arbor. I’ve also seen him more than a few times hanging out at Bombadill’s.
…and never in a skirt or dress.
In my world, that’s the territory of “bra man,” who no longer seems to wear bras, but they were totally a staple of his wardrobe when I first saw him two summers ago.
I sat next to him on the #4 several times. It’s always crowded, yet I seemed to be one of the few willing to sit next to him. Not due to his fashion choices, I suspect, but rather his hygiene choices…
I personally haven’t seen him around the past few years; but, I remember seeing him in depot town all the time, dressed like in the photo.
Could it be I don’t recognize him now that his choice of fashion has changed?
