local music calendar

Tomorrow, Febraury 2nd, between 2:00 and 4:00, there’s going to be a fundraiser for Growing Hope at the Corner Brewery. Local children’s performer Laszlo Slomovits, who with his twin brother, San, records as Gemini, will be providing the entertainment. So, if you have kids, know where to acquire kids, or just want to get into the brewery a few hours before they usually open, now you know. There’s a suggested donation of $5 per person, or $20 per family. I’m told that Laszlo puts on a hell of a good show, and it’s for a damn good cause.

And, if kids’ music isn’t your thing, I’m told the Director of the Ypsi Symphony Orchestra will be playing piano at the Riverside Arts Center on Sunday, February 10, between 4:00 and 6:00. Tickets for the Valentine-themed fundraiser are $20 per person. This includes hors d’oeuvres and wine provided by our friends at the Sidetrack.

Speaking of the Ypsi Symphony Orchestra and Laszlo Slomovits, as coincidence would have it they’ll be performing Tchaikovsky’s Peter and the Wolf together on Sunday, February 24 (along with Laszlo’s brother, San). The event, called “Friends in Song II”, begins at 2:00 in Washtenaw Community College’s Towsley Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children under 12, and $25 for families of four or more. I’m told by a friend in the symphony that it’s not to be missed.

If I missed anything, feel free to leave a comment.

There had to have been over 100 kids there today. It was completely insane and beautiful.
