Montel Williams isn’t a saint. His show chases ratings just like any other, and, I suspect, all too often turns a blind eye to the political crisis we’re all living through right now in America. But, I have to hand it to him for the way he took on Fox News this morning. They’d brought him on to talk about Heath Ledger’s fatal overdose, and, instead of doing that, he asked them why they weren’t talking about the 28 American soldiers killed in Iraq since January 1.

Cool!
Who’s Heath Ledger?
You know – that guy killed by the Olsen Twins.
Yeah, well…

I KNEW the Olsen Twins were evil.
Oh … THAT’s Heath Ledger. Hmmm.
And who’s Montel Williams, then?
Montel just got fired today. The Fox affiliates who carried his show all decided to drop him. Coincidence?
I rest my case.
Are you serious, EC?
I suppose he could have known that he was getting dropped, and did this to preempt them… But it’s probably much more likely that he was canned due to a combination of weak ratings and his recent comments… Let that be a lesson to everyone not to fuck with Fox…
It’s true, his show is gone after 17 years on the air. It was distributed by CBS, but word is that they dropped him after FOX declined to renew the series.
Thank you for posting the Montel clip, Mark.
I don’t know how many in our fair city have loved ones over there fighting, but we all know someone who is and the fear of losing that individual never rests.
While Heath Ledger may have been a tragedy, certainly each and every loss sustained in the tremendous efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan affect us more personally. And whether we agree with the war or not, these are our kids, our neighbors, and people we personally know and love willing to give their lives to protect us.
Kudos to Montel.
Actually, the fox stations made the decision not to pick up the Montel show for the 2008-09 season weeks before his appearance on Fox and Friends. The announcement from CBS that it was cancelling distribution was issued 3 days after his appearance. Montel did not mean for his appearance as a hit job against Fox, but some claim that was his Motive. The distortions that have been fabricated both here, and on other websites seem to be the workings of a few left wingnuts, who cannot stand that fact that Fox successfully delivers a balanced approach to its programing. In any case, now you have the truth, so do with it what you will.
Fox delivers what!?!
Balance … not!
Truth … not!
Next thing we’ll hear is that the Al Jazeera/BBC version has a Vatican imprimatur. Cripes!
