let’s have that drink february 21st at frenchie’s

OK, I talked with Linda French and she’s agreed to give us the front part of Frenchie’s from 7:00 to 9:00 on the evening of Thursday, February 21 for our little get together of bloggers, local elected officials, and blog readers. I know that some of you won’t be able to make it that day, and I’m sorry about that, but I was trying to work around a few different schedules and that’s the best I could come up with. Hopefully it’s far enough away that at least of few of you who otherwise wouldn’t will be able to work something out so that you can attend.

As we discussed, there won’t be an agenda — just a lot of bare-knuckle political discourse on the future of our beloved little town. Linda’s not charging us for the space, so it won’t cost anything to attend. She’s also offered to give us happy hour pricing on beer. What’s more, she said that by then they might even have all 16 taps up and running! My only concern is space. If a lot of people show up, it might get crowded. She says the front section of Frenchie’s will accommodate about 60, so I don’t anticipate a huge problem, but who knows.

OK, I’ll send some invites out to the local bloggers and politicians that I know, and if you could do the same, I’d appreciate it. I’ll also ask Linette if she can update our old Beer with Bloggers logo so it has the new date and time. (Or maybe I’ll just go the handmade route again.) So, for those of you who would like to help promote the event on your sites, just hang on through the weekend and I’ll get you a graphic of some kind.

I’d also like to say that, even though much of the discourse will be about Ypsi, we’d love to have folks from Ann Arbor and elsewhere show up as well. I’m sure that a lot of us would actually welcome an opportunity to speak about something other that the precarious position of this town of ours… So, if you’re a blogger, and if you read this, and if you’re within hitchhiking distance, please stop in and introduce yourself.

While I wasn’t able to stop by during the previous gathering, I will plan on the Feb 21 date. (Thanks for the generously expanding the invitation to elected pols.)

It’s on my calendar. I look forward to meeting new people I’ve been blogging with and to see those that I already know.

So, is this a “What happens at Frenchies stays at Frenchies” kind of thing, or if I show, will OEC forever be “that drunk, pig-faced dwarf who kept grabbing my ass”?

Is that a bad thing, OEC?

I’ve always wanted to be groped by a dwarf. True story.

JoF. Meet in the alley between Oak and Maple and your wildest dreams will come true. Just give me 10 minutes to get drunk…

Knowing several MM.com readers already, I think it’s safe to say that you, OEC, won’t be the only drunk, pig-faced, ass-grabber. In fact, I suspect that those not fitting this description will be in the minority.

    OEC,

I was there. No one showed. I was confused though about which of the three alleys you meant. I managed to get a good deal of groping from my non-dwarfien wife when I got home, so it was a good night anyway.

Ed, was that you hiding in the shadows further down the alley? I would have approached you but that shadow decidedly looked non-dwarfien too.

If the bus system is still running, I’ll be there.

It looks like the #10 is the best outbound route, or just a short hike for me to pick up the #4 or the #5 and skip the downtown transfer.

ps. the “beer with bloggers” logo doesn’t link to anything, shouldn’t it link to some merch?

In a perfect world, there would be a commercial tie-in for every post on this site. My priorities have just been fucked up lately. I’ve put content over commerce…

What if I paint you a portrait of a severed unicorn head with all the blood running out to spell “beer with bloggers”? Would that be worth $25 to you, Ed?

I’m glad to hear that you’re coming too.

    Jof,

I’m sorry. I woke around three a.m. somewhere on Prospect clutching the still warm tail pipe of an 87 Cutlass. By the time I got home, my wife just uttered, “Uuugh, car exhaust and rock salt, again…” and went to sleep. Glad the night worked out better for you.

Great idea, but alas, the two things against this outing are a previously scheduled dinner with the family followed by the season premiere of Lost. Another time, I hope.

Yes. Let’s please postpone this event. I have been planning to buy a honey-baked ham that evening.

I just realized the 21st happens to be the Tree Fort Beer Release party at The Corner Brewery. That means mug Club members get to drink for free starting at 6pm. Can we get T-shirts for the ‘1st Annual Bloggers Stumble?’

It’s all downhill to Frenchie’s. We could sled. Someone should turn on a hose and start icing up the street now. FIRST ANNUAL DRUNKEN YPSI LUGE!

I’d love to have gone. I remember the place fondly: a girlfriend I dated in high school was the daughter of Ike, the guy who owned Ike’s Barber Shop, which I think was next door to what is now Frenchies. Anyway, I now live 1,700 miles away. As appealing as the place is, it is not practical to make the trip.

Anyway, you need to know this: someone else is blogging about ball shaving. In fact, he used his Treo to liveblog his vasectomy.

Just thought you’d want to know. After enjoying your meal.
