kucinich on impeachment

Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich still seems to be moving forward with plans for impeachment. Following is a clip from coverage in the Reno Gazette Journal of a speech that he delivered in Nevada yesterday.

…”On the way over here, I was reading a 50-page document that relates to Articles of Impeachment for the President of the United States,” Kucinich said to a standing ovation. “And I want you to know that I’m actually preparing this document for submission to the House”…

I don’t know that he’s electable (especially now that he has Sean Penn in his corner), but it’s a damn good thing to have him in the race. We need a real progressive in there challenging people and bringing ideas like this to the table.

The Dems are scared that talk of impeachment will turn people off and cost them votes. As much as I’d like to see Bush and Cheney kicked out, I think they’re right. The time to have impeached has come and gone. The important thing for Dems to do now is win across the board. Then, once we’ve started to clean up the mess that the administration has done, we should set out to replace the Dems that didn’t push for impeachment two years ago alongside Conyers.

Be patient. Look how long the Chileans waited to get Pinochet, and recently the Fujimori conviction. We know where Bush lives. If the time comes, he can be had. Cheney may frustrate us all and go to war criminal heaven before we’re ready for a show trial.
And what of the others in the Bush parade … the Wolfowitzs, et. al.? They, too, will be made available, should the time come.

I agree that his voice is an important one. Unfortunately, I hear the newspaper hosting tonight’s debate in Iowa is not allowing him to participate as he doesn’t meet their criteria. (They demand that candidates maintain an Iowa office and have staff in the state.)

It is not just Kucinich calling for Impeachment hearings anymore. Read the Op-Ed by Representatives Wexler, Gutierrez, and Baldwin )each members of the House Judiciary Committee. They want hearings for HR 333, Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney.

I’m not counting on Congressmen Dingell & Conyers having the gumption to take their lead, but with continued pressure one never can tell.
