bird head, fish body

Clementine told us the other day that for Halloween this year, she wants to be a creature with a bird’s head and a fish’s body. She wasn’t specific about what kind of fish, but she was very clear that she wanted to have the head of a cardinal. Neither Linette nor I have any idea where she got this idea, but we like it, and we’re dedicated to seeing it through, regardless of what our neighbors and the parents of her friends might think. If you have any thoughts as to how something like this might be executed, please let me know. (If you send me drawings, I’ll post them here.)

Consult with Nina for ideas. She’s an expert.

How about a cardinal being eaten by a fish?

I just love that idea. It’s so all-of-you.

Fairly easy to make, using poster board, no? (I see two parts for the fish bod: front and back, like a sandwich board, then maybe a beak, eye makeup and a few feathers, or a cardboard bird mask for the head.)

So, now: Can you recommend a Halloween candy that’s special but not absurdly expensive?

Geez, Mark. Why do make everything sound so difficult?

Go to the Disney store and buy a Little Mermaid costume. Then go to any sporting goods store and buy a St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball cap. Presto-change-o … fishtailed-cardinal.

We, on the other hand, are just gonna hang a big blue ball around our daughter’s neck. When folks ask what she is, she’ll just say, “I’m Uranus.”

I had 3 sketches complete with DIY webpage links but then read Ol’ E Cross’s post and scrapped it all.

Clementine is talking about genetic engineering! She’s talking about playing God! It’s clearly your ‘mad scientist’ influence.
