dingell rolls out the gas tax

As promised, Dingell laid out the general terms of his proposed carbon tax today. The legislation, as he described it, would impose the following:

A tax on carbon:
$50 / ton of carbon (phased in over 5 years and then adjusted for inflation)

Typical cover-your-ass political power game bullshit. God forbid someone just do the right thing because it’s the right thing. People in power don’t want to solve problems. They want to stay in power. That’s the sad fact that’s going to drag this country down.

    Dr. Fred is correct.

This proposed legislation is a very good example of NOT listening to the people. I am sure Debbie is very proud and far more focused on shoving GM’s health care responsibilities off on the UAW than in serving their customers really good and green forms of personal transportation … lucky for Wagner, her last name is Dingell.

Doesn’t quite fit, but … sort of …

As Dingell rolls out the gas tax … Jennifer has rolled up the carpets and she and her husband are shuttering the windows on the Capitol.

Could it really be true that the entire State government will fail BEFORE Ypsilanti’s government fails!? If Michigan flubs it, what are people to expect of a little town of 11,000?

I can see Jennifer now, pacing in the Rotunda … she’s going: “Out damned spot!” and Soapy’s ghost is echoing: “Fail? We fail!?”

If the state and the city aren’t in enough trouble … astrologer’s in the know about Wall Street are predicting a “crack in the cosmic egg” on October 16. I’d buy some Loonie’s or a bag of junk silver coins at the Depot Town Coin Shop, if I were a believer … aren’t you?

Dingell claims to have gotten 700 replies as of Friday night. No word yet as to the breakdown. I suspect most are negative though… If you haven’t sent him a note in favor of the tax yet, please do. (The link to do so is in the post.)

I am very sorry I did not sign your petition, I would have if I’d known about it. I have however singed many others related to the issue. And sent many reps, letters. I also did volunteer work with greenpeace and the PIRGs. I like to see that there are other people out there thinking about these issues. Thanks
