if the election were held today, here’s what the pollsters say would happen

A reader by the name of Robert left the following polling numbers in the comments section. I thought that they were worth reprinting here on the front page. They all come by way of Rasmussen Reports.

Giuliani 47% Clinton 44%
McCain 48% Clinton 42%
Clinton 47% Romney 44%
Clinton 47% Thompson 44%
Edwards 47% Giuliani 45%
Edwards 48% McCain 41%
Edwards 55% Romney 29%
Edwards 53% Thompson 32%
Giuliani 51% Obama 39%
Obama 46% McCain 42%
Obama 49% Romney 37%
Obama 47% Thompson 44%

Of course, Rasmussen polling data also indicated that Gore would win in 2000… OK, maybe that election was stolen, but you know what I mean… Just because a poll says something, doesn’t necessarily mean it will play out that way. With all of that said, however, you can’t deny that this looks pretty good for Edwards. Unfortunately, however, according to Rasmussen, Edwards will never get the chance to run head to head against the Republican candidate. According to their most recent polling numbers, if the Democratic primary were held today, Hillary would take 37% of the votes, beating Obama (25%) and Edwards (11%) handily. So, it looks like we’re fucked… Unless, of course, Gore gets in. I haven’t seen any polling data to support it, but my sense is that he’d take the primary and the general election. And, I suspect his margin of victory would go up by over 5% if Obama joined the ticket… If he doesn’t run, however, I say we go for Edwards… Who’s with me?

I’m with you. Someone suggested to me last week that Al’s holding out on announcing he’s running because he’s trying to lose weight after all the jokes going around his increased body size. Makes sense to me.

If Al wins a Nobel Prize … kaching! He’s in. And if Barak doesn’t get his facts straight about fossil fuels, I’ll have to scratch Edwards’ name onto my Gore/Obama ’08 button.

I’m with you. It’s long past time we started the rally around someone with a decent chance of taking the Casa Blanca.

How’s this for a bumper sticker
    “Until it’s Gore
    It’s Edwards I’m for”

    “OBAMA HILLARY INTO THE FLOOR”

Gore/Obama could be called team “GO!” or the “GO team”

Gore/Edwards could use the campaign slogan, “We bring good things to life.” General Electric could finance the whole thing. 100 million is peanuts to those guys.

    How’s this for a Gore/Edwards bumper sticker…
    “Giuliani is a Nazi”

“Baby Killing Nazi” has a better ring to it.

I also like: “Giuliani – he looks like he might be ethnic”
