I can’t tell you anything about it, as I want to save it all for the upcoming issue of Crimewave, but Linette, Clementine and I spent the past week or so tooling around the northeast, staying with friends, eating things from the sea, and having adventures. One thing I can share, however, is this short video clip of Clementine, sitting on a sidewalk of North Adams, Mass. Linette and I were a few steps ahead of her, urging her to keep up, when she decided to plant herself on the sidewalk and panhandle for a ride. (video link)

She did this for about two minutes straight, but we only got this little bit on tape. It’s like a rare bigfoot sighting.
First you ate things from the sea, then your kid became a street urchin. Coincidence?
After i watched this, the next video that you tube automatically recommended to me was a guy playing the theme song to MacGyver on an acoustic guitar. After I clicked it, a whole bunch of related videos of people playing the theme song to MacGyver also popped up, and now I’ve wasted a full fifteen minutes of my life that I’ll never get back, and also have the MacGyver theme stuck in my head.
Thanks, youtube.
Wow, she’s grown quite a bit from how I remember her.
It’s funny what kids pick up from their parents. I’ll never forget the February night I was driving through downtown and saw you on the corner of Michigan and Huron wearing nothing but a rain poncho, sobbing in the sleet, one arm stretched to the traffic the other clutching your abdomen, screaming at the top of your raspy lungs, “Anybody! Hold me! Anybody! ANYBODY! Hoooold me! HOLD ME!”
It took you a hell of a long time to come up with that OEC, but it was worth the wait. Brilliant comment.
And, shit yeah, Sylvie. Can you believe how much she’s changed in a year?
I was hoping that I’d check YouTube tonight to see that dozens of people had posted their own responses to this video. I was imaging all these videos of people sitting on sidewalks, begging, in beautiful sing-song voices, to be held.
I”m so excited for another issue of crimewave. i bought a subscription a couple years ago and never got any more issues than the first. if it is as good as the first (walmart bingo, etc) it will be worth the wait!
“Anybody Can Hold Me” could be the next “Girls Gone Wild.” You could have film crews on every college campus filming young coeds sitting on sidewalks outside of bars saying it.
Hi! My name is Alex! No one can hold me!
