Patrick Leahy (D-VT) kicked off Senate Judiciary Committee hearings this morning on the matter of the controversial purge of U.S. Attorneys by the Bush administration. The opening statements can be found online, as can an interesting exchange between Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and Senator Russ Feingold. I don’t want to get all sappy, but Democracy really is one hell of a system when its working right. I’d forgotten jus thow beautiful the sounds of checking and balancing could be.

Pure speculation, but I wonder if Bush is “staying loyal” to Gonzo from concern of what Gonzo could/would reveal went on in the Bushes.
