ypsilanti troopers

From today’s “Ann Arbor News“:

The Michigan State Police post in Ypsilanti will likely lose more troopers than any post in the state next month, if the state goes through with a plan to lay off 29 troopers statewide.

Four of the troopers in Ypsilanti were among the 29 lowest scorers in the 2004 trooper school, and are on the list to be laid off indefinitely on April 8. It’s part of a $13.6 million plan to erase a projected deficit.

The number of road patrol troopers assigned to the Ypsilanti post would drop from 17 to 13, leaving 24 total employees at the post. The Ypsilanti post patrols all state trunk lines in the county, and 10 townships either full- or part-time….

So, should we take this as a good sign? Does it mean that there’s less crime here in our area than anywhere else that state of Michigan has troopers? Otherwise, you’d think that they’d move some of those “high scoring” Troopers over here… And, while we’re at it, I wonder why we had more “low scoring” Troopers than any other post in the state… If MM.com was a real news organization, I’d call Ypsilanti post commander Lt. Ann McCaffery and ask her for an explanation.

I should also point out that it looks as though those troopers that we do retain will be writing more tickets too. But, I guess that’s what we get for throwing tax abatements at large multi-national companies, and allowing the wealthy to slide by without paying what they really owe in taxes.

I can see why terrorists might want troopers off the highways who have the job of policing Michigan truck lines. This wasn’t proposed by terrorists though, was it?

On the other hand, since the troopers are being limited on the number of miles they can drive, they’ll probably be stuck cruising close to home around Ypsi and Ypsi Twp.

    Sorry Manchester.

Don’t worry about lil’ Ol’ Manchester, E Cross– The tickets will still flow from MSP Post #18 (Adrian) just as always!(still grumbling about my “5 over” ticket from ’79)

I have a lot of respect for the MSP. Great outfit, in my opinion.

The town copy in Lake Wobegon, near where I went to school in Minnesota, was kicked off of the Minnesota State Patrol for shooting loose dogs at random. Bill the Town Cop. Not bright, but he did a decent job in that little town. Did a lot of volunteer work with local farmers and town folk.
