fire in ypsilanti public housing kills three

All of the Detroit stations have sent their helicopters out to Ypsilanti to cover a fire at the Paradise Manor apartments on Michigan Avenue. Channel 4 is reporting that three children are dead. According to authorities, the fire is under control, but still being fought… Hopefully there aren’t more casualties.

As I recall, the last time we had a big fire, there was talk of fire hydrants and smoke detectors not working. I certainly hope that’s not part of the story this time. If it is, there should be hell to pay.

More to follow.

And, speaking of Paradise Manor, I’m curious to know if anyone else finds the name as distasteful as I do. If there’s anything more painfully ironic within a half hour drive, I’m not aware of it.

Actually the residents chose that name themselves, though I don’t believe it was for ironic purposes that they did so…. This is my side of town, and new name or not most people just call this place “The Ave.” Sad news today.

Actually, I debated posting that comment, Rob, as I thought that there might be some significance to the name that I wasn’t aware of. Thanks for letting me know that it was chosen by the residents. It still strikes me as odd though.

And, as for my inquiry into to other “painfully ironic” things within walking distance, I just got an anonymous note. It said only, “Cool City.”

    hahahahahahahaha

It hasn’t seemed appropriate to say (and most likely never will), but when you said, “I wasn’t able to attend the meeting” (in regards to the Ware incident), the first thing that came to mind was, I knew Mark Maynard hadn’t attended when no one raised their hand, stood up and said, “This question is for all three policemen; Some law enforcement officers claim that being a police officer takes a sort of 6th sense, so…”

(In reference to your 15 minutes on Geraldo.)
