I know it’s stupid, but I can’t help substituting the names “Gerald Ford” and “Saddam Hussein” for one another when reading the news. I know it’s morbid, childish and disgusting, but the idea that we would rush to execute an elderly, relatively benign, former American President several decades after he stopped being relevant makes me chuckle… as does the idea of Betty Ford kissing Saddam’s casket as it lay in the Capitol Rotunda.

I believe that Dick Cheney was Saddam Hussein’s Chief of Staff.
You know what makes me chuckle? A James Brown/Saddam Hussein crossover. “Godfather Of Terror Hung For Soul Crimes.”
Even though I’m an atheist, I’ll admit to imagining Saddam, James Brown, and Gerald Ford alternately hanging out at the pearly gates and riding the ferry across the river styx.
I had been privately amused by the thought of Ford’s golden coffin pulled by plumed horses through Harlem, then lying in state on the stage of the Apollo Theater, as thousands of fans thronged the streets with WIN buttons.
My post office was closed yesterday because of Gerald Ford. There was a big sign in the window. My guess is that his body got lodged in some kind of pneumatic mail sorting tube. I hope it didn’t create problems at other post offices as well.
I figured they should toss Ford’s coffin down the stairs one last time when they get off the plane.
I read a news story today about a kid somewhere hanging himself after seeing the footage of Sadam. Terribly depressing.
