Our poorly-attended-to garden has been throwing off patty pan squash by the wheelbarrow-full and we’ve run out of things to do with them. Linette, trying not to let them go to waste, has been drawing faces on them. I’m not sure if it’s where the Fat Albert animators got the idea for the character of Dumb Donald, but the resemblance is uncanny.

I love the idea of you in blackface, wearing a red sweater on Holloween, and Clementine chasing after you with a pattypan squash taped to her head. I’d give you all the candy in my house (had the bank not taken it from me).
I don’t think that I’ve mentioned it here on the site before, but I heard from a reader on the east coast, who also has a two year old named Clementine, that he and she may go trick-or-treating as John Mark Karr and Jean Benet Ramsey. (If his wife lets them.)
