a question for condi

A few weeks ago, while interviewing Bill Clinton on FOX News, Chris Wallace asked why, as President, his administration hadn’t done more to crush Al Qaeda after the U.S.S. Cole was attacked in October, 2000. Clinton defended himself, saying that the CIA and FBI hadn’t yet certified bin Laden’s involvement until early 2001, right before he was to leave office. Clinton then went on to say that he found it curious that Wallace, in all the times that he’d interviewed members of the Bush administration, had never asked any of them that same question — why hadn’t they gone after bin Laden in the first 8 months of their administration, after the Al Qaeda link to the Cole bombing had been proven? Of course, we all know that doing so wouldn’t fly at FOX News, where the decision was made long ago to place the blame for 9/11 at the feet of the former Democratic administration. Wallace, however, wouldn’t come out and say that. Instead, he said that he’d been overwhelmed by the emails of viewers, demanding that he ask this of Clinton.

I don’t mind tough questions being asked of Democrats. They deserve it. But certainly the Republicans deserve as much, if not more… Which brings us to the reason for this post. The good folks at Think Progress have just kicked off a letter-writing campaign directed at Wallace. The message being sent is simple… On Sunday, when Condoleeza Rice appears on your show, ask her this question:

Prior to 9/11, you had eight months to respond to the al-Qaeda attack on the U.S.S. Cole. Why didn’t the Bush administration take action and put al-Qaeda out of business?

As of right now, over 14,000 letters have been sent. And, as I suspect that’s a great many more than Wallace received asking that he pose the question to Clinton, I can’t see as how he could, in good conscious, not ask it… unless, of course, he’s a lying, propaganda-spewing, sack of shit.

I guess we’ll just have to wait till tomorrow and see.

If you decide to follow that second link, you’ll be asked if you want to send an email to Wallace. Here’s the draft text they give you to start with.

    Mr. Wallace:

I appreciate your willingness to ask your guests questions based on viewer e-mail. I would like you to ask Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice the following question on Sunday:

Prior to 9/11, you had eight months to respond to the al-Qaeda attack on the U.S.S. Cole. Why didn’t the Bush administration take action and put al-Qaeda out of business?

Last month, you asked this question to President Clinton. Condoleezza Rice has been on Fox News Sunday 23 times since 9/11 and has never been asked. In fact, you and your predecessor have never asked this question of any Bush administration official. (You told President Clinton that you had asked the Bush administration about the U.S.S. Cole, but that statement isn’t true.)

Please demonstrate your good faith and ask Secretary Rice this question.

    Thank you.

    ugh, right?

Albright, Condi and the last three generations of Dem & Republican international public servants got their PhDs studying communism and the Soviet Bloc (China, too … although only McArthur was right … we should’a gone into North Korea). Anyway …
what’s the big suprise that everybody is f’king up on the Middle East? No commie pinkos there … just a bunch of crusader- busted camel jockeys with oil. (No sweat on oil, since Bandar Bush is one of the family.) Yeehaaa!

    Arrrgggghhhh!

    Good catch.

Sorry. (Remember, I have a cold.)

Yes, she should be held accountable for quite a bit of “monkey business,” but I don’t think she’s culpable here.

Mental Note: Donna Rice does not equal Condoleeza Rice
