altoids survivalism

Would anyone out there be interested in getting together at a bar some Saturday afternoon to make survival kits in Altoids tins? I’m thinking that it might be pretty easy to do if we got a few people together, did a bit of advanced planning and each brought multiples of a few items. (This link to “Field & Stream” comes by way of BoingBoing.)

And here’s a question… How might we consider altering these survival kits so that they’re “optimized for Ypsi?”

Or, we could always get together to make brief safes like those of our friend Doug Skinner keeps raving about.

I don’t see a gun in there….which means no survival.

I have about 100 Altoid and other mint tins of various sorts (I make pinhole cameras out of them so people keep giving them to me). Happy to offer a bunch to the cause…

Might I suggest a gross of extra-large condoms, and, if you don’t already carry one like I do (in a hollow tooth), a “suicide pill.”

Good to see you the other day, with the swift and mysterious handshake. Were you doing a modeling shoot? Hehehee..

I’d be up for assisting with assembly! Let me know when you’re thinking about doing it [this weekend is a no-go]. I’ll try and take a peep at the article too, to see where supplies might be had, on the cheap.

Hmmm. I can see a lot of possiblities for these kits. For instance, one could make one to hide in an outbuilding in case one has to leave the house in a hurry, like in case of fire. I have been meaning to do this for some time but havent gotten around to it yet and was kind of worried about mice getting into my kit (a problem that the altoid tin solves, I hadnt considered putting my kit in an altoid tin)

Anyways, I would put $20 cash, a list of phone numbers, and a spare key to my car in the kit. Maybe an ativan or something, because if I am standing half naked in my back yard in the winter because my house is burning down, I might need something to calm me down.

I have seen all sorts of these – they are cute! I have seen urban survival kits, knitting survival kits, sewing ones, “Boyscout” survival kits. I’ve seen some really nice ones where the outside is femo-ed in pictures or patterns… Those are really cool. Here’s a nice one:

Some of the urban ones might have bus tickets and route maps, a stamp, mini mag lite, swiss army knife, pay phone change, tylenol, shout wipes, bandaids…

Ypsi one could contain Mini Ypsi map (maybe one that highlighted specific things like the bars, or local land marks, etc)

A similar theme with a slightly more art-like twist is the pocket shrine. A little “Shrine” to a subject – I’m pretty sure you could make some pretty cool Ypsi ones
    Here’s samples – pretty neat…

So much to think about. Thanks for all of the ideas…. Hmmmm…. What should our next step be?

I have to go and mow the yard now – maybe something will come to me.

Hmm…. survival… We are a three fold being, The Flesh, The soul (mind) and the Spirit. In his image we are created. (spirit) Walk with God, be led by his Spirit. Unless you sincerely ask you won’t ever know.

Your eternal survival depends on it. Man is separated from God until he requests a rebirth of the Spirit. Believing that Jesus died on the Cross and rose again from the dead is a start.

“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

If you prayed this then welcome to the family as a child of the true living God. You are his child and nothing can separate you from his love. No matter what you have ever done in your life, God remembers it no more. You are free. Forgive others, forgive yourself and show others love, mercy and compassion. Get a bible and read it daily. Feed your spirit the truth and pray continuously to our Father that knows you before you were even born. Lastly, Join others that share the same faith by attending a christian church of your choice.

God Bless you for becoming a true survivor.
