There’s now an official flyer for the Shadow Art Fair. Please download it, return to your place of work once your boss has fallen asleep, and begin printing. Keep preessing the print button until sunrise. Then, hire a team of illegal aliens to help you hand them out and plaster them on every remotely flat surface in your town, regardless of where your town is… Seriously, it would mean a lot to me if those of you in other towns, cities, states and countries would help get the word out about our immensely important event.

Is there a problem with unofficial S.A.F. materials being distributed?
Don’t post them on poles in Ypsi, that would be illegal. – Steve
Prostitution’s illegal too, Steve, and I’ve seen that on my street quite a few times…. I don’t mean to sound like a smartass (really, I don’t), but I find the one much more objectionable than the other.
But, you raise a good point, and I’d like to ask everyone out there not to put up these flyers where they will be torn down, not appreciated, etc. Seriously. I don’t want to create a mess that someone in the city has to deal with. They’ve got enough to do right now… Ann Arbor on the other hand….
Yes, but just because you see prostitution doesn’t mean you should walk up to someone and ask ask how much. (I am not trying to be a smartass too.)
Look at the some 20 folks busted in just the last week here in the city. I am a speaker at a court ordered class for John’s where we get to talk about the impacts on our neighborhood from prostitution. The majority of the John’s say they weren’t really wanting sex, they just were talking and the Ypsi cops are hassling them. Yeah right.
The fancy light poles that you see around town cost on average cost about $6,000 each (we wont’ even go there to talk about why the city needs $6,000 light poles). You can shorten the life by up to a third if there is a paint failure because of tape pulling the paint off the pole. Not to mention the maintenance of pulling the signs down and repainting poles.
Besides it just makes our community look ugly. Look at what the poles look like to the west.
Thanks for being understanding,
Cheers! – Steve
I’m confused…what is “Shadow Art”? Does it need special lighting?
I’m also confused.
I realize I could just walk downtown, purposely get arrested, and then attend one myself, but assuming I’m not going to do that, I wonder what impact prostitution has on a neighborhood, exactly, that it warrants a mandatory class with guest speakers?
By the way, damn you Mark Maynard for having this event on a day I will be out of town. You should have checked with me first, you know. I would have very much liked to attend.
(I realize you may not have had anything to do with picking the date, but I’m feeling crotchety today and you are a convenient target.)
Far be it from mypsi to ever say Ann Arbor has it right, but handbills are a sign that something is actually going on in a town:

A rational policy on postering (take two out-of-date fliers down for every one you put up) or city-provided kiosks is in order.
I’ve been back in town for a day now and I’ve already seen one of these flyers up. Whoever is putting them up, thanks. We appreciate it.
