There’s some debate as to whether or not Karl Rove was indicted on Friday. What’s not in question, however, is the fact that things have suddenly taken a much darker turn for the Vice President. Included in a Friday court filing by prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald in the ever-widening case against ex-Cheney chief of staff Scooter Libby, was a copy of the July 6, 2003 New York Times editorial by Joseph Wilson, covered in the handwritten notes of Dick Cheney. The existence of the document would seem to corroborate the belief that Cheney was intimately involved in the effort to discredit Wilson, the first man to come forward with evidence that the case for war in Iraq had been manufactured. I don’t know that you’d call it a smoking gun, but it’s certainly one more big piece in the puzzle of who orchestrated the smearing of Joseph Wilson, and ended his wife’s career as a covert CIA operative, thereby considerably setting back our intelligence gathering concerning the nuclear ambitions of Iran.
