“can you hear me now?”

I just saw this sticker on a light pole in Ann Arbor. It’s no doubt the work of one of our local freedom-hating pro-terrorist groups.

(As several prominent Republicans have reminded us over the past few days, “You can’t enjoy any civil rights if you’re dead.” Therefore, it stands to reason that anyone protesting the government’s practice of recording the calls of American citizens without so much as a warrant, is a person who wants to see his fellow citizens killed by terrorists in some spectacular fashion. So, to defend liberty is to attack liberty… Got it?)

I think John Cornyn was the first Republican to use that ridiculously stupid slogan about civil rights and death. Russ Feingold was ready for him though, replying “give me liberty or give me death.” I don’t imagine Feingold would mind others echoing him in quoting Patrick Henry, seems to me it shows who the real patriots are. As Henry also said “if this be treason, make the most of it.”

It was quoted here several months ago, but Gore had a great line in a speech where he said something like, “Do you really think our nation is in greater danger now than it was in 1776?” The point being, if we didn’t scrap the Constitution then, why do it now. It’s a point which should be brought up again and again and again.

“You can’t enjoy any civil rights if you’re dead.” is a true statment. In fact, I think it was a slogan used during China’s Cultural Revolution.

VOIP is the way to go for cheap, for flexibility, for voice AND video, and for security. And it’ll only get better. Several systems let you use your legacy equipment as well. Check out Science Friday, Ira Flato, today’s date. Great way to avoid having to ask … can you hear me now. Try Skype for ease and intuitive setup/use.

I’m going to find that Gore quote and put it on the front page… And I’ve got Skype downloaded. I just haven’t tried it out yet, Ed. I will, though.
