a sunny day in the suburbs

I spent this weekend in Kentucky, with my family, celebrating my cousin Shane’s graduation from college, the 40th wedding anniversary of my parents, and the Kentucky Derby. And, now that I’m home, I’ve got to use the rest of my waking hours to prepare for tomorrow’s workday. Before I go, however, I wanted to share this picture is of my daughter, Clementine, and my cousin Alicia’s daughter, Zoey, on the tiny trampoline of a stranger. (This happy suburban scene, by the way, takes place right across the street from the site of a recent murder. Just going to show, I guess, that all the seemingly rugged SUVs and fake brink facades in the world can’t make you completely safe.)

A gate wouldn’t have helped. The murderer was a homeowner in the neighborhood… And I don’t care who my daughter loves, so long as she’s happy and stays away from mullets.

So cute! Two cousins at a family reunion! Isn’t that how your parents got together, Mark?

“And the troll, awakened from his long slumber, tentatively dips a big toe into the water…”

    Stay tuned.
