eating paczkis till i pop

“To the man on the street the very name, Hamtramck, connoted crime, delinquency and general disorder.”

Tomorrow, I’m headed into the traditional Polish stronghold of Hamtramck, Michigan to celebrate Paczki Day with hoards of fellow Pollocks and the staff of the Hamtramck Star. if you don’t know what a paczki is, you can learn about them here, find recipes for them here, or, if you’re not too frightened by crime, delinquency and general disorder, buy them here.

    i love ’em…

being polish and living on the south side of pittsburgh, we eat them before the easter season begins.

for those who don’t know what a “paczki” (pronounced POONCH-key) is, it’s a polish pastry like a jelly or custard-filled doughnut.
