media out, mercenaries in

Mercenaries… or I guess they prefer to be called “employees of private security firms” now… have been spotted all over New Orleans these past few days, brandishing heavy-duty firepower. Most of them appear to be from Blackwater Security, a firm that presently maintains a private army in Iraq on behalf of the Bush administration… I suppose it was inevitable, given the fact that so many of our National Guard units are deployed in Iraq, but it gives me the creeps. (If I’m going to be shot and killed here in my own country, I’d like for it to be done by the US military. Is that too much to ask?) It’s not easy, but I’ve come to accept the corporate looting of Haliburton and their peers in situations like this. The idea that some of these companies operate quasi-military operations, however, is just too much… Where, one wonders, is the accountability?

    my own blog
Like a bleeding vampire the martyr clutching at a sinuous bat flutters!
Their cold riches resemble their fool no longer.
    Those desolate hordes flutter…
    Those raindrops mourn soundlessly.
    The healer is mysterious.
