the thin man series comes to dvd

Thanks to some shrewd negotiating on my part, not only have the folks at Warner Home Video agree to finally put out all six episodes of William Powell and Myrna Loy’s classic “Thin Man” series on DVD, but I’ve also arranged to have Amazon give all of us 30% off!

Actually, I did write a letter a long time ago asking the studio to release them on DVD, but I doubt my letter helped very much… And, as for the Amazon discount, I think they’ll give it to anyone. (Of course, if you buy it through this link, I’ll make about a dollar, which will go toward funding one of my poorly thought-out schemes.)

The important thing, regardless of who gets the commission, is that you get yourself a copy of The Complete Thin Man Collection when it comes out on August 2nd. Seriously, it’s good stuff… and Myrna Loy’s one of the sexiest women to ever walk this earth. (I would have said “the” sexiest, if not for the fact that I had the misfortune of seeing her very late in her career guest-starring on an illusion-smashing episode of Columbo.)

Have you ever tried to match the drinking in one of these movies? Amazing.

Belly laugh. Thus the bulk gin. Yeah, I very much enjoy the Thin Man series. In fact, I was kind of amazed at the sophistication of their sarcasm. I didn’t know movies like this were made back then. In a way, they have the feeling of an independent film.

*sigh* I was planning on buying it from DVDempire since I read that amazon.com gives to more Red than Blue causes, but it’s three dollars cheaper at amazon.com and I can support Mark at the same time….I don’t know what to do!!!!!!!

I’m so excited though. I LOVE The Thin Man series and although I already have the first on on DVD I’ll still get the set. And yes, Myrna Loy was exquisite in those films.

I just noticed that William Powell has an unusually narrow face taint.

Perhaps it’s an optical illusion created by the thin moustache.
