quotes from the campaign trail

Kerry: “If you can’t get flu vaccines to Americans, how are you going to protect them against bioterrorism? If you can’t get flu vaccines to Americans, what kind of health care program are you running?”

Bush: “We will not have an all-volunteer army.”

I like the use of the flu vaccine shortage as a central campaign issue as we approach the election. It touches everyone, it illustrates some of the things Kerry has been saying about the state of the American healthcare system, and, most importantly, the criticism is fair. Bush had been warned that there could be problem this year, and neither he nor Tommy Thompson took action. I just hope there isn’t footage out there somewhere of John Kerry getting a shot when Senators were told they could cut in line, in front of the sick and elderly. That’s the only thing, I think, that could turn this issue around on him.

As for Bush’s quote above, as he apparently didn’t mean to say it, it probably wouldn’t be fair, but someone really should use it in a commercial aimed at 18-24 year old voters.

I saw that Bush comment earlier. The best part was that the crowd corrected him, he didn’t even realize what he had said.

I agree about the flu issue, especially when you consider that approx. 12,000 U.S. citizens die each year from the flu. Four times as many casualties as 9/11, each year.

I hope no one makes this point to W, though, or he might try to figure out how to “smoke out” the flu molecules and that could lead to quite a few casualties.

If you haven’t already, check out the link at the bottom of that post for the Voter Fraud Clearinghouse. It’s amazing how many little battles are already taking place around the country. My hope is that Kerry wins in a landslide so we don’t have protracted legal battles, but the way it’s shaping up, it could get really ugly. Kerry apparently has six teams of attorneys that will be waiting by jets, ready to take off at a moment’s notice to where ever there might be problems.
