pylon art score

A couple years ago I had the good fortune to meet and talk with the folks in the legendary Athens, Georga band Pylon. Soon after the interview ran in Crimewave #14, I got a call from the editor of the magazine, Flagpole. He wanted to run the piece in an upcoming issue and he was willing to pay a few hundred bucks for it. We worked out a deal, I sent off the text to them, and, a few months later, I got a check. My first instinct, seeing as how this was pretty much unexpected money, was to do something good with it. In other words, I didn’t want to just use it to pay the rent, or to pay Avis for the van I wrecked in Athens. (Actually, now that I think about it, I probably should have used the money to pay for that dent, but it didn’t cross my mind at the time.) I thought that a great way to use the money would be to buy artwork from Michael Lachowski, Pylon bassist and founder. So, that was the plan, but I never quite got around to it. In spite of my best intentions, the money went to pay for something else, something less meaningful… Well, I’m happy to say that after two years, I’ve finally been able to set things right in the universe. As for today, I own a few very nice pieces by Michael Lachowski and he’s got some money to put toward his next art project, a fashion layout he’s shooting for Surface magazine. I love when things work out like this, when lucky money can get passed from one person to the next, with each of them doing something good with it.

For anyone interested in finding out more about Michael’s work, visit Mikchael Lachowski dotcom… And, for those of you who are Pylon fans, you’ll be happy to know that the newly reunited band are still fucking incredible. I’m listening to a bootleg right now of their surprise reunion show a few weeks ago and it’s brilliant. It’s hard to believe that they’d only practiced together four times before taking the stage, after over a decade of not playing.

I don’t know that Michael would want me to… He sent me the bootleg. I’ll have to ask him. Actually, I think he’d be fine with it. It’s a great recording. I was really happily surprised to hear how good they were. Let me send him an email though.

On a different note, is your UM account name, ashaver, by any chance short for Ass Shaver? And, if so, it that how you found MM.com? Where you thinking of expanding your skill-set into balls?

You will be happy to know that I have purchased my first silverback gorilla taint and it’s being shipped in from Kenya. I should have it any day now, if it doesn’t get hung up in customs. Believe me when I tell you, once it is in my possession, this entire site will change. You just wait. One day soon you’ll wake up and you’ll see my taint dreams realized, you’ll log on to MM.com and find instead the biggest, most comprehensive primate taint portal IN THE WORLD!
