kerry announces last minute stop in detroit

I just got word that John Kerry has announced a last minute stop in Detroit this Monday afternoon. This is, of course, a mixed blessing. It’s great that he’s coming here, but it means that things are tight. As much as we might like to think otherwise, he wouldn’t be coming here if he didn’t have to… So, with that in mind, I’m asking all of my readers in Michigan to please get out and do something this weekend, even if it’s just for an hour or two. Every little bit does matter… And, if you can, take off Election Day to help take people to the polls. I’m always looking for people in Ypsi, but I’m sure you can find opportunities elsewhere. The important thing is that you contribute something. Losing Michigan isn’t an option.

The most recent Zogby tracking poll has Bush up by two points in Michigan. We thought the war was going to be in Ohio and we let our gaurd down. Come on, people, we’ve still got the weekend to turn this around.

If you need a little incentive to go to the Detroit rally tomorrow, Stevie Wonder is going to be there:

I volunteered yesterday, Mark, and managed to lose a vote for Senator Kerry because the man’s method for determining for whom he would vote was based on whoever called him to ask for his vote would NOT get it. Talk about depressing….

Call him back twice as a Bush supporter… And, no, I’m not kidding. Seriuosly, try it, Kathleen.

I thought of that last night after I had left the phone bank and didn’t have his number. Besides, if he had caller id, all he’d have to do is look and see that it was the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office calling again.

Call him from every payphone you pass on the way home from work…

Hey, if anyone gets out to the Kerry event today in Detroit, let me know how it went. I hope he fills up the arena… I wish I could get away for it, but I’m having a little bit of trouble working out the logistics for tomorrow. In spite of what my MoveOn handlers have told me, it doesn’t look as though we’ll be able to have a person in the polling place. We can still make it work, but it complicates things a bit.
