theres always mars

Aside from the new, 3D photos of the surface of Mars, everything in the news today, at least the stuff I read, sucked. First there were the three EPA officers who resigned their posts in frustration over the Bush administrations lack of support for what remains of the Clean Air Act. Then, there was an article in the San Francisco Gate about the phenomena of free speech areas, the corrals into which protesters against Bush are forced whenever he speaks publicly. Heres my favorite quote from that piece:

Mike van Winkle, the spokesman for the California Anti-Terrorism Information Center told the Oakland Tribune, “You can make an easy kind of a link that, if you have a protest group protesting a war where the cause that’s being fought against is international terrorism, you might have terrorism at that protest. You can almost argue that a protest against that is a terrorist act.”

Isnt that un-fucking-believable?

The pictures from Mars are really cool though I know Elton John says, Mars aint no kind of place to raise a kid, but the prospect of getting off this planet with Linette and our embryo is mighty appealing sometimes.

Oh, and (get ready for a big surprise) did you hear that the government decided not to pursue charges again the Halliburton subsidiary for overcharging the US armed forces for fuel used in Iraq? (If youll recall, the Pentagon bookkeepers came out in mid-December and said that theyd been overcharged to the tune of about one hundred million dollars.) Well, the inquiry into the matter apparently found that Kellogg Brown and Root, the Halliburton subsidiary, charged a fair and reasonable price. I might actually have believed this at one point in my life, but I view almost every thing suspiciously now. (There is no such thing as credibility in the US any longer, and thats what well really pay a price for in the long-run.)

And, to sum up this post (before 24 comes on TV), Americans are fucking stupid.

Now how about that flight to Mars?
