you can be a midwife in the crimewave birthing process

OK, Linette and I have decided to get the new issue of Crimewave, the fifteenth, out before Halloween 03. Its an ambitious goal, but we think that we can do it So, that means we have to go to press around September 1. That also means that all the writing needs to be done over the course of the next three weeks On a personal note, all of this means that my eye, now almost back to normal, will be filling up with blood again Believe it or not, this is a stressful process.

So, right now, youre probably saying to yourself, Hey, I wonder what I can do to help. Well, here are a few things to consider.

1) If you are a creative type, feel free to submit something. If you know the magazine, you should be familiar with the kind of stuff we like to print. This issue is already looking to be pretty heavy on the interview side of things, so Id suggest you steer clear of that format, but everything else is up for grabs. If you have an idea, just drop me a note and let me know what youre thinking of If you are one of our beloved regular contributors, you know what you need to do. Dont waste time writing to me – just get to work.

2) If youve always been wanting to subscribe to Crimewave, now might be a good time. I say that because were getting ready to raise our rates a bit. Right now, you can still get a four-issue subscription for $10 (that includes postage). If you want, you can include back issues in your subscription too. For instance, you can get 12, 13 and 14 right now, and well send you 15 when its done. (Just tell us which four issues you want when you fill in your PayPal order form.) Its a good deal.

3) It looks like were going to get that interview with Iggy Pop. Of course it might fall through, but right now things look good. If you have suggestions for questions that youd like us to ask him, let me know. Id be especially interested to hear from people that may have first-hand information, the kind of stuff that may not have been brought up in past interviews, especially stuff from his early days when he lived here in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

4) Buy ads. We just sold our back cover to the good folks at Virgin Records! We still have lots of space to sell though. If you think that you might be interested, email me and Ill send you our rate sheet Being horrible business people, everything is priced far lower than it should be.

5) Were always interested in finding out about new, independent bookstores where Crimewave might be appreciated, places like Atomic Books, Reading Frenzy, and Quimbys Queer. (I didnt mention See Hear because they still owe us money.) If your favorite bookstore doesnt carry Crimewave, tell them about it. Its easy to order though our primary distributor, Desert Moon Periodicals. Send them the link.

6) If youre already a subscriber, and youve moved over the course of the past year, let me know so that I can update your address in our database.

Thanks again for all your help. We appreciate it…. Here’s hoping you like the new issue when you get it in the mail.
