governing through prophecy

My guess is that its bullshit, but Michigan televangelist Jack Van Impe today announced that Condoleezza Rice had been in touch with him, asking about biblical prophecy and what was going to happen in the Middle East. (If I found out that this was true, Id go into the basement, curl up in a corner and just wait to die.) Heres a quote from his web site:

I am not sure whether (Bush) knows all of the prophecies and how deep of a student he has been in God’s Word, but I was contacted a few weeks ago by the Office of Public Liaison for the White House and by the National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to make an outline. And Ive spent hours preparing it. I will release this information to the public in September, but its in his hands.

He will know exactly what is going to happen in the Middle East and what part he will have under the leading of the Holy Spirit of God. So, it’s a tremendous time to be alive.

How fucked up is the prospect that the Commander-in-Chief of the US military could be taking directions from Christian crackpots who believe, among other things, that the Devil is behind product barcodes and that the Antichrist is behind a plot to create a new world order?

Even is this example turns out to be fiction, it has been verified that Bush and his advisors have met with the author of the book The Bible Code. Hes definitely thinking about Biblical prophecy and how it could be playing out right now, before our eyes in the Middle East. The question, as far as Im concerned, it to what extent our foreign policy is being driven by such superstition.
