tonight

Linette and I are watching the new Bravo show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. If you havent heard the hype yet, the shows about a group of gay mercenaries that ambush and makeover unfashionable straight men. Its actually quite good or at least the first episode was. So, were watching the second episode now, and Id like to be able to pay attention, but Ive got to share some articles with you. Lots of stuff happened today.

Slate has a good blow by blow account of the White Houses effort to pass the buck with regard to our countrys misuse of military intelligence for making the case for war.

And, on the same subject, a group of veteran intelligence professionals are calling for the immediate firing of Dick Cheney, the man they see as having orchestrated the intelligence deception.

Paul Krugman doesnt single out Cheney, but he does point to the Bush administrations pattern of corruption. Heres a clip:

More than half of the U.S. Army’s combat strength is now bogged down in Iraq, which didn’t have significant weapons of mass destruction and wasn’t supporting Al Qaeda. We have lost all credibility with allies who might have provided meaningful support; Tony Blair is still with us, but has lost the trust of his public. All this puts us in a very weak position for dealing with real threats. Did I mention that North Korea has been extracting fissionable material from its fuel rods?

I dont know how many of you out there are university researchers, but for those of you who are, Monday is the deadline for people to get their LifeLog grant applications in to the government. So, if you have an idea as to how the government can keep better track of its citizens, their movements, conversations and thoughts, send ’em in.

Speaking of funding, what are the chances that the Senate will cut funding for Poindexter’s Total Information Awareness system? We’ll find out in a few days.

OK, I need to get back to watching straight men turn gay now.

Good night.
