me and famous women on tour

Arianna Huffington is speaking tonight in Ann Arbor. Im tired, and Linette and I have still got a lot of work to do on our crimewaveusa.com website, but Im going to drag myself down there. Maybe Ill take my camera and see if I can snap a photo while shes signing copies of her new book, Pigs at the Trough. Then Ill come home and work while watching war footage until I fall asleep.

Speaking of women on tour, Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) is coming to Detroit in a month or so. One of our friends said shed put us on the list, which is nice. We havent seen Chan in probably three or four years now. Since then, shes gotten even more famous. Linette pointed out a few weeks ago that she was modeling in the New York Times style section. When we first met her, she was a tomboy, she was like the a grown-up version of Scout, the little girl in the film version of To Kill a Mockingbird. Now shes like a super-model. And, her new record is really good too. Id be surprised if shed remember us, but I guess its possible. On one hand, Im really happy for her that shes experiencing all this success. On the other, I hate it when things and people that I know and like get popular and/or become super models.

This has nothing to do with anything, but I was watching the new Bill Maher show on HBO a few nights ago. It was terrible, but Arianna Huffington was on, so I watched. She was good for the most part, but I like reading her column better than I like hearing her speak. She sounds like whichever Gabor sister it was that used to be on Green Acres. How can you take someone seriously when they evoke that image in your mind? Anyway, what I wanted to mention was Tim Robins attire. He was the guest sitting next to Arianna. He was wearing a What Would Jesus Bomb? t-shirt. It was great. I hadnt seen one of those yet. I imagine well all see quite a few over the course of the next few weeks.

Well, I need to go and get cleaned up for Arianna now.
