I didnt know Amanda Davis. Ive never read her writing. Id heard her collection of short stories, Cricling the Drain, was good. Its one of those things that Id thought about reading, but never got around to.
Her first novel was just released a week or so ago.
I think she knew my friend Amy. They both had things published by McSweenys.
She died in a plane crash a few days ago.
Ive spent a long time today reading stories about her on the McSweenys site.
It made me sad.
She sounds like a hell of person.
A dozen people, all wonderful writers, posted stories about their experiences with her, the strange things that happened in her presence, the Scrabble games, the county fairs, her writing. She died in a small plane crash with her parents. Her dad was at the controls, flying the plane. They were flying her to her next book signing. The fact that her novel is titled “Wonder When You’ll Miss Me” makes it all very surreal.
